The Hebrew boys

There is a story I love so much. The story of the Hebrew boys and the King with the burning furnace (Daniel 3). This is a story of trust, built on the knowledge of God’s endless love.

The king in that day had set up a statue and wanted everyone to worship it and there was a call for the boys to be in the furnace because they did not obey the kings decree. He asked them in verse 15 “who is this god who can rescue you from my power?”.

Here we see that he thought that these men were without any power and hope. He wanted to see what they would do. Little did he know that there was a great power with them.

They gave their answer in verses 16-18 which got the king even more upset and he asked for the fire to be made hotter than usual.

The circumstance at the time made it easy for them to easily just compromise or just give in and bow to the image but rather these men showed their love, faith and stood their ground in God. They stayed grounded in God no matter the threats they received.

The devil is always on the “go” to make the children of God fall but we have to remain sensitive so we do not compromise. The Hebrew boys knew who they were and did not want to give that up for anyone or anything.

In whatever situation we find ourselves, when we stay deeply rooted in Christ, He shows up to rescue and save us.

I strongly believe God honors integrity.

Standing firm in Christ and not allowing ourselves compromise leads us to be mature in Christ.

Something I love about this story is what they pointed out “even if he does not we still would not serve your god or the image you have set up…”. Their minds were set and already made up because they knew who they trusted.

There are times we find ourselves in different situations that may want us to compromise. In these times do we just easily give in so we don’t “step on toes” or are we willing to stand on integrity and in God?

God was present with the Hebrew boys even in the situation that they were in. They decided not to compromise and He showed up for them.

But the question here is this, if God decides not to show up at the point you expect him to, will this make a difference in your life? Will you still trust and believe in him?  Will you still have faith?

May our lives be fully built and surrendered to Christ.
